What are acne scars?

Acne scars are fields of fibrous tissue on the skin – that is, parts of the skin where normal tissue is replaced by fibrotic.

What leads to acne scars?

Acne scars arise as a reaction to inflammation or an infection in the skin caused by acne. During the inflammatory process the tissue is damaged, and in response, the skin begins a process called fibrosis.

Fibrosis leads to a change in the texture of the skin that on some parts becomes thinner (atrophy) or thicker (hypertrophy) than the surrounding skin.

What types of acne scars exist?

  • Ice peak scars – very common type of scarring. The scars are narrow and extend in depth. The surface of the skin seems to be pierced by ice, hence the name of the scar. They can also be larger in size, and sometimes they can look like enlarged pores.
  • Boxcar scarring – an oval or rounded recess. They are much wider than the previous type of scar. Most often occur in the region of the cheek.
  • Rolling scars – scars that give the skin a wavy look. They are usually broad and shallow.
  • Hypertrophic Scars – Above the level of surrounding skin, more solid consistencies. Often they occur on the back or chest, but sometimes they can occur on the face, neck, and their size usually decreases over time.

How are the Acne Scars treated at Diva Laser Center?

After physical examination by a Dermatovenerologist, it is recommended to treat scarring with one of the most modern methods for this condition.

A fractional laser of the latest generation is the most effective mean of treating all kinds of scars. Laser works by creating thousands of fine perforations in the skin, leaving the surface of the skin intact. Undamaged cells from the surface of the skin migrate to the damaged area and heal it – stimulating the collagen synthesis which fills the scars and improves the texture of the skin.

Further remodelling of collagen continues in the next 3-6 months, and the number of laser treatments to be done depends on the severity of the clinical picture and the number of scars. Usually procedure is to be repeated 3-5 times.

Plasma accelerates the normal healing process and tissue reparation, and therefore also has a positive effect on acne scars. According to the latest clinical studies in acne and acne scars, plasma is a mandatory part of the treatment protocol. The plasma method stimulates the synthesis of collagen and elastin and in this way improves the quality and texture of the skin and corrects numerous irregularities on the facial and body skin.

The method is completely natural and does not require any recovery period. For treating acne scars, depending on the extent of skin change, it is recommended to undergo 3 treatments at one month intervals.

Mesotherapy is a method in which mesococktails made of proteins, vitamins and hyaluronic acid are injected into the microcirculation of the skin, thus improving the synthesis of the main proteins that give the skin elasticity and tonus, and also acts anti-inflammatory and antioxidant, which is crucial for the treatment for acne and acne scars. Mesotherapy is being done every 1-2 weeks, and the number of treatments is determined depending on the extent of skin change.

In consultation with doctors, we advise to our patients one of the treatment procedures or a combination of procedures for achieving maximum results.
